At least 7 people are now known to have been killed on Saturday evening when an intoxicated driver ploughed into pedestrians and motorists along Gudele One – Rock City Road in one of Juba’s most horrific accidents, police have confirmed.
Traffic police at the Gudele One area have reported the fatal accident in which the fancy Toyota V8 vehicle lost control right from the Seventh Day Roundabout and rammed into road users, according to the statement.
It said the veering car, registered as SSD 996L, knocked dead three people at the Seventh Day Roundabout before killing four others at the direction of Jebel Lodge in the Rock City suburb.
“It’s alleged that both motorcycles and tricycle drivers have died. The driver sustained some injuries, The cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving as a case has been opened at Gudele Police Station,” police said further.
Police have declined to name the suspect.
Photos obtained from the police show scenes of destruction as the vehicle plunged into the roof of a mud house with its window glasses shattered.
Along the busy street, ruins of bloodstained motorcycles that have been crushed beyond repair lie about to the shock of passersby.
