57 South Sudanese doctors undertake exams in Ethiopia Scholarship

57 South Sudanese medical doctors short-listed for Ethiopian scholarships in various medical specialties are reportedly under taking a professional examination.

Known as Ethiopian Residency Matching Program (ERMP), it part of an annual scholarship for the year.

A post on the official Facebook page cited Ethiopian Ambassador to South Sudan as saying his country is “a strategic partner of South Sudan, sponsoring the largest number of scholarships for South Sudanese students in Undergraduate, Postgraduate and TVET in various fields of studies than any country”.

Diplomat Nebil Mahdi Abdullahi expressed his country’s profound commitment on capacity building and human development program citing 629 scholarships awarded for foreign nationals this academic year alone.

On her part, Dr. Harriet Akello Pasquale, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of South Sudan expressed her gratitude to the government for the consistent support since 2014.

The Undersecretary is quoted as saying “nothing is important like investing in human resources development adding that there is no health service delivery without health workforce.”

She emphasized the critical nature of investing in human resources, particularly in the health sector, as the foundation for effective healthcare delivery and achieving universal health coverage.

Ethiopia’s boast about providing scholarship program for Medical Students since 2014 with more than 100 South Sudanese medical specialists graduated in 22 medical specialties programs.

The Embassy went on to state that the initiative shows the deep-rooted cooperation between the two sisterly countries.
