UNMISS says it is providing humanitarian assistance to more than 5,000 displaced persons who fled fighting at the UN camp in Malakal last month.
Medical charity MSF says 18 people were killed and several others wounded in the incident.
But representatives of the IDPs in the camp and the leader of the minority in the national assembly say the number of those killed could even be higher.
The IDPs left the camp in fear of further conflict.
“We had a number of integrated assistance missions to be able to assist them for the time being before a long and durable, more durable solution is found, Ariane Quentier, UNMISS spokesperson, told Eye Radio.
The assistance comprises of foodstuffs, healthcare, and water sanitation.
Both the UNMISS and the government are still investigating the deadly fighting at the UN base.
