The government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal says 50 community infrastructure projects have been completed in Aweil East and Aweil South counties, including water systems, schools and health facilities aimed at improving access to basic services.
The projects were implemented under the Enhancing Community Resilience and Local Governance Project (ECRP-2), according to officials from the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
Speaking in Aweil, ECRP-2 Project Management Unit official Kenji Gordon-Aganson said the completed projects form part of a larger programme of 109 planned infrastructure interventions across the two counties.
“So far, in both counties of Aweil East and Aweil South, we are doing 50 sub-project infrastructures with a total of 109 infrastructure projects,” Gordon-Aganson said.
He said the completed works include 26 water supply systems, 14 schools and six health facilities.
“The sub-projects include 26 water supply systems, boreholes and water yards. We have about 14 schools that have been constructed, and we have six health facilities that have been constructed,” he said.
Gordon-Aganson said the projects are intended to improve access to clean water, education and healthcare services for communities in the two counties.
The program is being implemented through the Ministry of Finance and Planning in collaboration with the Local Government Board, with support from development partners.
This approach makes the government the primary actor, the numbers the main news, and the World Bank a supporting detail rather than the headline. That’s usually a stronger news structure unless the story is specifically about donor funding.
