The South Sudan Bar Council has conducted a screening test for 187 lawyers, including 40 women, as part of the process to grant them legal practice licenses.
The examination is overseen by a committee consisting of two representatives from the Ministry of Justice, four senior lawyers, four representatives from the Judiciary, and the Bar chairperson.
Arop Malueth, the South Sudan Bar Chairperson, stated that the association conducts exams for 40 lawyers per week to assess their knowledge of legal principles and courtroom skills.
“The Bar council conducted a test to accredit several lawyers. They will be tested on the laws, court procedures, and litigation,” Malueth said.
“The number of female lawyers who applied for the test to obtain a license to practice the profession is 40 female lawyers. The total number is 187, the total number of those being tested to be accredited as lawyers.”
“Every week, we conduct an interview with forty applicants. The results will be announced later. Those who pass the tests will be certified as lawyers, while those who fail will retake the test.”
The tests cover written and oral components including laws, criminal procedures, and court hearings.
Lawyers who pass the exam will be granted a license to practice law. Those who fail will be required to retake the test.
The Bar Chairperson emphasized that the results will be announced at the end of the testing process to ensure transparency and maintain high professional standards in the legal field.
