The Police have arrested eleven suspects accused of killing and looting motorists in Juba in the past two weeks.
According to the national police spokesperson, the suspects were apprehended in different residential areas in the capital.
Major General Daniel Justin said the suspects are awaiting trial at the northern division police station.
“In the past few days, there were cases of killings and looting of Motorcycles or Boda-bodas. We are informing the citizens, especially the motorists to be careful,” said Justin.
“We have arrested 11 suspects, they are currently at the northern division of the police. Many people have already opened cases of looted and stolen motorcycles in Gudele and Gumbo, and we want them to come to the northern division with their documents of the motorcycles.”
Speaking to Eye Radio on Friday morning, the security official said the police will continue to crack down on gang-related criminals.
Major General Daniel Justin went on to caution motorists against negligence, especially during night hours.
“Motorists should be extra careful when carrying a customer, you have to be observant whether he is armed or not,” he said.
“If he is one phone several times, maybe he is connecting with others who are ready for you ahead there and will tell you to drop him to a certain location.”
“They can easily loot you and take the body from you, someone cannot just come to you at 10 o’clock in the evening and ask you to take him to a very far location, sometimes two of them want you to carry them, you should avoid that.”
Increased cases of robberies and looting have been reported in the capital Juba, ahead of Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
On Tuesday, an armed gang robbed more than 4,000 US dollars and half a million pounds from the media advocacy organization – AMDISS.
