About 112 personnel have been trained to help contain Marburg or Ebola virus disease in case of any outbreak in the country, the minister of health has said.
South Sudan is concerned about the recent reports of Marburg and Ebola Virus disease reported in the neighboring Uganda which is said to have killed a health worker.
Dr. Riak Gai Kok, says they have stepped up prevention and preparedness activities.
“The situation is different because the outbreak of Marburg disease in Uganda is significant to us giving the proximity of Uganda to south Sudan and the high level of movement between the people and goods to and from Uganda,” said Dr Gai.
Marbug, like Ebola, is not an airborne virus.
The disease is spread through direct contact with the blood, tissues or bodily fluids of an infected person.
Ebola has killed 3,865 people, mostly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, according to the Whole Health Organization.
