Youth recover 12 abductees in Jonglei – Police

Twelve people who were abducted in Duk County of Jonglei State early this week have been recovered.

On Tuesday, 12 people passengers travelling between Poktap and Pajok area fell into an ambush by unidentified armed men when they were abducted.

Following the incident, the area youth mobilized themselves and searched for the missing people.

On Thursday, May 25, 2023, they found the abductees including five boys and four girls aged between 3 to 9 years.

They are currently with their freed mothers under protection in Gadiang area waiting to be taken back to their homes in Duk.

“There was a vehicle travelling from an area called Poktap to an area called Pajok. It was carrying passengers, so on the road it fell into an ambush which resulted in the abduction of about 12 people. 9 children and 3 women,” said Major General Costa.

“The youth mobilized themselves and ran after the criminals. They managed to recover all the abductees and so they are now in an area called Gadiang.”

The police couldn’t state who the captors were.
