Two killed Yei gov’t convoy attack

Two people have been killed and several others injured by unidentified gunmen in a road ambush on a state government convoy along the Yei-Morobo road.

The incident took place over the weekend, in Jombo Boma, Mugwo Payam.

Those killed include a youth leader, Sallah Jeremiah and the Private Secretary to the Minister of Education Mama Jane.

Meanwhile, the injured are, among others, the state Minister of Education and Gender Mary Apayi, Morobo county commissioner, Jacob Toti and the Governor’s Political Advisor, Jackson Abugo Gama.

The convoy of eight vehicles was attacked on its way back from in Uganda.

The state officials had gone to attend the commemoration of the International Youth Day in Koboko.

“The vehicles were destroyed under heavy gun fire including throwing of grenades,” said Stephen Ladu Onesmo, the state information, youth and sports minister, while addressing the media.

The injured victims are undergoing surgical operation and medical care at Yei civil hospital, he said.
