Police in Yei River County have released 45 commercial sex workers who were arrested early this week for allegedly engaging in prostitution.

They were released on a condition that, if they are found again, they would be imprisoned for a jail term not exceeding six months.

The youth, who are below 20 years, were arrested in an operation on lodges and hotels in the border town.

Wafa Khamis, county Legal Advisor and Public Prosecutor, told Eye Radio that managers of hotels and lodges in the town have been cautioned against renting out their facilities to sex workers.

“If we found out that, then the managers will face legal charges,” she warned.

Yei police authorities say they arrested the commercial sex workers in an effort to reduce crimes and the spread of HIV/AIDs.
