This comes after the 9 May peace deal that ended a 3-year insurgency by the South Sudan Democratic Movement – Cobra Faction led by Gen. David Yau Yau himself.

The pact made Greater Pibor Area Administration autonomous from Jonglei State.

Under the terms of the peace agreement, the area consists of Pibor and most of Pochalla counties, and will be supported by a special development fund managed by the national presidency.
