An index by a London-based consulting firm has identified South Sudan’s passport among the worst in the world.

The index update by Henley & Partners shows that South Sudan is in position 97 out of 104 countries ranked.

It comes after Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Somalia, which have been ranked the least important. Others include Syria and Libya.

South Sudan is just ahead of Ethiopia and Eritrea, and in the same group with Kosovo and Yemen.

The ranking tries to quantify the power of passports based on the amount of visa-free travel their owners are entitled to.

Other countries in the same category with South Sudan include Pakistan and the Palestinian territories, which have not been fully recognized by the West.

The index found Germans held the most powerful passports in the world for third year in row in 2016.

A number of the European nations and the US, Japan and Canada closely follow Germany as the top nations holding the most powerful passports in the world.
