A sixteen years old girl dumped her baby in a pit latrine this morning in Yambio, Western Equatoria state.

The newly-born baby was recovered about two hours, after its teenage mother secretly wanted to get rid of it.

The baby is still alive and currently recovering in a hospital in Yambio.

Our reporter Paul Knight narrated the story:

“She was pregnant but the parents did not know that she was pregnant,” reported Paul Night, Eye Radio’s Stringer.

“Three days back, she was complaining that she is sick. From there, this morning the news emerged that she went and delivered in the latrine at around 6 in the morning.

“And immediately she dropped the baby into the latrine. Afterwards, someone went and said there was something like a baby crying in the pit latrine. So she went there and found that truly it was a baby that was delivered and dropped in the pit latrine.

“Immediately, they called the neighbors and started breaking down the latrine. Someone went in using a ladder to bring out the baby.”

The state police have not commented yet.
