The SSPDF spokesperson has confirmed that the army maintains full control of the border with Sudan, rejecting claims of fighting between Sudan’s army and the RSF within South Sudan’s territory.
In recent weeks, the border of South Sudan saw a mass influx of people fleeing intensified clashes reportedly between Sudan’s army and RSF along the border areas especially, in Sudan’s Joda area bordering Upper Nile state.
Last week, a senior government official in Renk County, Upper Nile, told Eye Radio that the area had received 8,000 people fleeing the ongoing fighting.
According to the local authorities, those fleeing the violent conflict have been arriving at South Sudan’s Joda area in Renk County daily
Speaking to Eye Radio’s Sundown Show, SSPDF Spokesperson Major General Lul Ruai said some Sudanese armed forces were dislodged to South Sudan territory where they were disarmed and confined in one place.
General Ruai dismissed allegations that the Sudanese armed forces and RSF battled on the soil of South Sudan.
He added that the SSPDF is in full control of the country’s 2,000-kilometer border line with Sudan.
“There are reports that fighting had spilt over our country and that fighters from RSF and the Sudanese army crossed into our territory and are fighting. I would like to take this opportunity to say no, these are fabrications by those who want to portray us that the SSPDF has an army that is unable to protect and seal our border,” Maj Gen Lul stated.
“We have heard reports and these are unconfirmed reports, that some of the Sudanese armed forces who are dislodged from their areas along the border, surrendered to SSPDF at various crossing areas,” he said.
“All those who crossed into the territory were armed and the equipment and support weapon were disarmed waiting for further direction. For any border who has come across wrong information on social media, we are fully in control of our borders,” he said.
