Some students in Wau town of Western Bhar el Gazal objected to examination supervision and stoned invigilators, and National Security personnel at the center, the national Minister of General Education and Instruction said.

Awut Deng Acuil revealed that the incident happened at Standard Secondary School.

However, Minister Awut, who spoke on national television SSBC on Friday, did not explain the measures taken against the malpractice and violation of regulation examination.

“We have noticed with great concern an isolated case in a stander secondary school in Wau where the candidate refused to invigilate and attacked the invigilators and national security personnel with stones,” she said.

“The exam is processing well nationwide we have only experienced a few cases of sickness, nursing mothers holding their kids in hand while sitting for exams, and inmate candidates sitting for exams in cells.”

“Another serious violation and regulation of the exam in Nimule and Magwi were when the police officers responsible for the examination tried to steal exam papers.”

Awut also revealed a similar incident of malpractice in Nimule and Magwi counties of Eastern Equatoria state, where a police officer responsible for the exams tried to leak the exams to the students.

But she said in this year’s exams, only a small number of malpractices have been reported across the country and that the examination procedures went smoothly.

She also stated that the ministry has arranged for students in extraordinary circumstances to sit for the final exams.

She said some students sat in hospital beds because of sickness or delivery while others sat in prisons.

Minister Awut cautioned invigilators and security personnel not to interfere with the Examination Council’s duties.

She said the Examination Council is mandated by law to carry out exams.
