Wau prison chief, two associates in custody for rape charges

Western Bahr-el-Ghazal Police have arrested the chief administrator of Wau Central Prison and his two associates for allegedly raping and torturing a 31-year-old woman in the state capital.

The suspect, Major General Lino Ngong Kut, and his associates Mading Mading Wal and Akoul Madut Akoul, both civilians – allegedly committed the crime on the evening of the 22nd of May.

They were reportedly drunk when they raped and tortured the woman.

“On 22nd of May 2023, a police officer in the prison service by the name Lino Ngong Kut, the Chief Administrator was under alcoholic influence when committed the crime of rapping against the 31-year-old woman,” according to Major General Simon James, the state deputy police commissioner.

“We discovered that two civilians participated in the crime with him and they are Mading Mading Wal and Akoul Madut Akoul and they were all arrested, ” he said.  

They reportedly ignited plastic bags and dropped them on the woman’s body.

Major General Simon James says the officer accused the woman of stealing his phone while they were in a bar.

In a police investigation, he said to have confessed to the wrongdoing but said he did it to pay back for his lost phone.

“It became clear to us through investigations that after they committed the rape, they set a plastic bag on fire and dropped it on her back,” he added.

He said the police have filed a case against the accused and his associate for the alleged crimes.
