Wau IDPs receive shelter kits

International Organization for Immigration says it is distributing emergency shelter kits to 2,000 households in the UNMISS base and a nearby church in Wau Town.

Relief agencies, including IOM, are providing emergency assistance to displaced people in Wau town, following clashes in the area.

Since the fighting broke out an estimated 12,000 people have fled to the UN Mission peacekeeping base in Wau and are currently sheltering in an area adjacent to the base.

IOM says thousands more are displaced in the town in collective centers.

IOM South Sudan Head of Operations John McCue says water and sanitation conditions at the crowded UNMISS base are critical.

He said that they have assembled staff to increase access to safe water at the base and have adequate supplies on hand to construct nearly 100 latrines.

IOM says it Health staff is also setting up a clinic at the South Sudan Red Cross compound, where medical supplies are limited.
