Western Bahr el Ghazal State police have arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of a 35-year-old man over a love triangle, on Saturday.

Deputy Police Spokesperson, Major General Simon Gabriel, said the suspects have been transferred to Wau Central Prison to avoid tension in the area.

General Gabriel said the victim, identified Makuc Mabil, was beaten to death during a fight over a girl whom he contested with one of the perpetrators in Mapel residential area.

“There was a criminal incident resulting from adultery, which caused the killing of one person. But the suspects have been arrested,” he said.

“The situation is normal in Mapel. The suspect been arrested, and they’ve been taken to police Main station. Because we think that when we leave him in Mapil maybe it will bring another conflict. So, we took them from there and then we put him in the Wau Prison.”

The police official said the suspects include 18-year-old Madut Kuot Madut and two minors aged 15 and 16 years, whose names have been withheld.

Fighting over relationships, which are often deadly, are not uncommon in different parts of South Sudan.
