Vice President Hussein Abdelbaggi has called on the public to remain calm and cooperate with authorities following the killing of civilians and soldiers in Khor Kaltan.

Speaking during funeral prayers for the victims on Monday, the Vice President condemned the violence in the strongest terms, describing the events as a massacre of innocent South Sudanese.

According to the Vice President, intelligence reports indicate that the violence broke out following a repatriation process that took place on March 28, 2026. He provided a grim update on the scale of the loss of life.

“I condemn in the strongest terms possible the massacres of South Sudanese civilians in Khor Kaltan,” Vice President Abdelbaggi stated.

“Since the repatriation which occurred on 28th of March 2026, according to the intelligence reports, 81 civilians and 12 soldiers were murdered in the incident. However, six people died later, bringing the total to 39 people.”

The Vice President urged communities to reject further cycles of violence and uphold the principles of peaceful coexistence while the government works to restore order and ensure justice is served.

He emphasized that the government stands in solidarity with the grieving families and remains committed to the fundamental duty of protecting human life and dignity.

“The government stands in solidarity with the victims of Khor Kaltan and calls for unity, peace, coexistence and a renewed commitment to protecting human life and dignity,” he said.

“I call upon all the community to remain calm, cooperate with the authorities and continue to uphold the principle of peace.”

Abdelbaggi concluded by calling for a collective effort to work toward a safer and more just society to prevent such “atrocious” acts from recurring.
