A member of the Association of Visually Impaired is calling on the government to sign the UN agreement on the rights of person with disabilities.

Zakia Musa said people with disabilities still face discrimination in the country due to lack of proper laws to protect them.

She said signing the convention of rights of people with disabilities will ensure that such people are protected in times of crisis.

“I know that we did not sign this agreement that is why we see people with disabilities suffering in so many places like Bor, Malakal or Bentiu,” said Ms Musa.

“We are appealing to all so that this agreement is signed and implemented.”

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Association of the Visually Impaired , Augustino Elario, said signing the convention of rights of people with disabilities will ensure that such people are protected in times of crisis.

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is an international human rights treaty of the United Nations intended to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.

Parties to the Convention are required to promote, protect, and ensure the full enjoyment of human rights by persons with disabilities and ensure that they enjoy full equality under the law.
