Veteran South Sudanese journalist Lucy Yuaba who worked for the state-owned broadcaster radio, SSBC died in Juba on Thursday, at the age of 59 years.
She died from a heart-related illness in a hospital in Juba, according to a close family member.
Yuaba was first admitted with a similar condition two days ago and discharged, before falling ill again.
Jacob Daniel, a cousin to the deceased confirmed her demise in an interview with Eye Radio.
“She was not feeling well because of a health issue with her heart, but she was improved and discharged from the hospital,” Daniel said.
“Last night was ok, and later, there was some pain and we tried to rescue her, but she died.”
The relative said the veteran journalist passed away at 3:30 am.
Late Yuaba started her broadcast carrier at Radio Juba, now called South Sudan Broadcast Cooperation, in 1982.
After working for Radio Juba, she became a prolific broadcast journalist at Radio Omdurman during the 90’s and 200’s while presenting a national unity program.
Besides her journalism career, late Yuaba was a sportswoman playing basketball in Juba in the 80’s.
Yuaba’s funeral is being held at the family house in Nyakuron East block “3” in Juba.
