The Governor of Upper Nile State, Gen. James Koang Chuol Koang, is urging unity and reconciliation among residents to counter division as the state experiences insecurity, displacement, and economic strain.

Governor Koang made an appeal for unity, stating that Upper Nile must return to a period when citizens could live anywhere without fear.

Speaking in Malakal after a meeting with the Dongjol Community at his office, Governor Koang stated that leadership positions are temporary, but the responsibility to build peace belongs to all citizens.

He cited past efforts to lower tensions between Akoka and Fashoda, stating that community collaboration had previously restored stability and must continue. He noted that insecurity in portions of eastern and western Upper Nile has affected the economy and forced residents to flee to locations including Juba.

Governor Koang made these statements after receiving a traditional gift, “Bul,” from community leaders of Dongjol in Akoka County, who visited his office alongside their commissioner.
