The commissioner of Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria says farmers will benefit from the construction of a road to Lobony payam.

Construction of the 89-km road started in November last year.

Francis Okech told Eye Radio’s Dawn Show that the price of some food items will come down when construction is completed.

He said, “If this road is constructed properly, it will reduce the high prices of food in the town, compared to the current market.  You find one carrot is one pound, as a result of this one, if people are engaged and the Ministry of Agriculture also put hand as a development partner who is supporting agricultural program with some grant, I think this local community will grow a lot of food and taking to the market in Juba the prices will come down because before, maize from Lobony was taken to Uganda and to be processed in Gulu and come to South Sudan with high price, but now it can come direct from Lobony, Perlua and Magwi”.

Mister Okech said the road works are supported by the World Bank and the Ministry of Roads and Bridges.
