A delegation from the UN mission in South Sudan is touring the six counties of Central Equatoria State to explain its new mandate to local Government institutions.

The leader of the team, Alinikisa Mafwenga says the new mandate focuses on protection of civilians; support IGAD on peace building, human rights and humanitarian assistance.

“The new mandate …actually the priority is focusing on protection of civilians. UNMISS is also supporting IGAD in that respect, we are also trying to monitor human right issues and also the last thing is to provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable communities” the team leader said.

Yei River County Commissioner, Bidali Cosmas assured the UNMISS delegation of this county’s commitment to maintain peace, security and service delivery to the citizens.

“Looking into these four pillars of the mandate, I want to assure you that we have responsibility in this case to work together with you any time you come to Yei River County .” Cosmas said.

The UNMISS delegation is also expected to meet the county judiciary, civil societies and community leaders in Yei.
