UNMISS chief urges governors to help in healing and reconciliation

The Special Representative of United Nation Secretary General says governors of the ten states can play a vital role in bring healing and reconciliation in the country.

Ellen Margarethe Løj, who is also the head of the UN Mission in South Sudan, says the governors have a greater potential of conveying peace messages to the people at grass root levels.

She says she will visit all the governors in their respective states and discuss with them the peace process.

Madam Løj was speaking during the closing session of the governors’ forum yesterday.

“By your commitment to the peace process, you can convey some of the strongest messages to the people of South Sudan,” Ms Margarethe.

“I urges all the political leaders of South Sudan to place the interest of the country first and conclude without further delay a comprehensive peace agreement that will allow the healing and reconstruction of South Sudan to take place.”

The fourth governors’ forum started on the 27th of October and ended yesterday.

The theme of this year was: “National Reconciliation to Restore Peace, Unity and Reconstruction”.
