Rwandan President Paul Kagame is calling on the leaders of South Sudan to unite and resolve the problems affecting Africa’s youngest nation.

President Kagame says the root-causes of the current conflict can only be resolved by the South Sudanese.

He was speaking yesterday during a panel discussion on ending conflict in Africa at the ongoing African Development Bank’s annual meeting in Kigali.

The forum is being held under the theme: “Solving conflicts and Peace building in Africa.”

“Some of these underlying root-causes could and should have been addressed by the leaders there. Whatever happened, whoever was wrong, that is not the issue,” President Kagame the participants.

“I think something can be done, but it has to be leaders who have to work towards that and avoid the catastrophe that has already happened in South Sudan.”

President Kagame challenged African leaders to take the lead in solving conflicts that negatively affect their citizens and the continent.

“Maybe there is a problem between the President and the former Vice President, and if they can’t resolve it, and each one thinks he is the one who is right and the other one is wrong, and they are going to divide the army, the government and everybody else; why not call upon the neighbors to come and help?”

President Paul Kagame said leaders should be willing to embrace collective responsibility to end the suffering of their people.
