JUBA, South Sudan (Eye Radio) — UN Peacekeeping Chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix pledged continued support for South Sudan’s peace efforts following a meeting with President Salva Kiir on Thursday.
Lacroix met with President Salva Kiir before briefing the media at the State House. He was joined by Ambassador Cecilia Adeng, South Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the UN.
He emphasized that the UN is focused on stability and progress for South Sudanese citizens. He also guaranteed that UNMISS operations will continue uninterrupted, with full funding secured for the current fiscal year.
UN Peacekeeping Chief confirmed that adequate resources are being provided throughout the current fiscal year to ensure UNMISS can fulfil its mandate without disruption.
During the meeting, the Under-Secretary-General praised the “good working relationship” currently existing between the government and UNMISS leadership.
He noted that this high level of cooperation has directly led to more coordinated and effective efforts in resolving issues of mutual concern.
For his part, President Kiir expressed his government’s full cooperation in key areas of peace and security, welcoming the UN’s renewed pledge of support.
