Ugandan traders too scared to remain in Bor after UPDF pullout

Ugandan traders are pulling out of Jonglei state capital, Bor saying they fear the area may be insecure following withdrawal of the UPDF troops this week.

The Ugandan People Defense Forces were deployed in South Sudan after the outbreak of conflict in 2013.

The first batch of Ugandan soldiers left Bor Town last week. Their withdrawal is part of the implementation of the peace agreement to resolve the conflict.

The Secretary for Ugandan Community in Jonglei State, Sekeje Moses, told Eye radio that the withdrawal may not provide adequate security to Ugandan nationals in the state.

“We are scared as the community. Some of the members are shifting to Juba and others are going back to Uganda and I think,” Mr Moses said.

There are hundreds of Ugandan nationals in the area.
