Uganda President Yoweri Museveni said the country’s police force have confiscated and defused bombs that rebels from DR Congo had planned to detonate in churches on Sunday.

Museveni said the thwarted bomb attacks could be in response to what he termed as devastating attack by Uganda Airforce against the ADF in the eastern DR Congo.

“Through popular vigilance (Wanainchi Kuwa macho), two bombs which the remnants from Congo were planning to plant in churches in Kibibi, Butambala, were reported to the Police and defused,” the president said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Museveni also the Police is working to establish the exact identity of the individuals involved.

He added: “We shall get them wherever they go: Congo, Uganda, South Africa, or wherever they go.”

Museveni on Sunday warned his countrymen to be on alert about possible bomb attacks after saying UPDF fighter-bombers “paid a visit to ADF terrorists” killing unspecified number of them.

The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) which is active in the volatile eastern DRC, has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

In June, ADF militia groups attacked a boarding school in western Uganda killing at least 40 people, mostly students.
