Two people died and seven others were critically wounded in an accident between Awerial and Yirol West of Lakes State on Thursday.

Local authorities say a Toyota pickup truck coming from Thiet Town of Warrap State, overturned while trying to pull out a Landcruiser that was stuck in a muddy road.

The vehicle carrying an unknown number of passengers then crashed into a tree.

Lakes State Information Minister William Koji said two people died on spot and nine others sustained injuries in the accident along the unpaved road.

“There was a car accident between Yirol and Awerial yesterday, whereby two people lost their lives and seven others were left in critical condition at the hospital of Yirol West County,” he said.

“The vehicle was pulling another vehicle and there was a tree fallen on the road, so the vehicle ahead stepped on that tree as coincidence and the vehicle overturned.”

Minister Koji told Eye Radio that seven passengers are in critical condition at Yirol West County Hospital.

Most roads across the country become inaccessible during the rainy season – derailing the movement of commercial and humanitarian vehicles.
