Two local officials killed in Ruweng ambush

Two officials from Ruweng Administrative Area were killed and another is injured in a road ambush on a commercial truck in Abiemnom County by armed bandits on Saturday.

Ruweng Director of Information Sarah Akot said the incident happened at 9:00 am, between Awila village and Makuach Payam in Abiemnom County.

“A truck coming from Juba heading to Mayom was attacked by some armed group they were three people in the car plus the driver,” she told Eye Radio.

The deceased have been identified as Deng Long Kiir, Executive Director of Makuach Payam, and Major Manut Malual from SSPDF Division One.

“Immediately, when they arrived in that area these groups started shooting at them and they killed the Executive Director of the Payam named Makuach Deng Long Kiir and Manut Malual from SSPDF Division I, and one person was wounded who run with the later truck driver.”

Akuot said the truck was caring goods from Juba to Mayom.

According to her, the attackers are suspected to be armed militia groups operating in the territory of Mayom County.

“They run to the side of Mayom after killing these people they looted the truck with was carrying food items.”

The information official condemns the incident and called on the perpetrators to desist from such acts.

Eye Radio contacted Unity State Information Minister David Gai Jiecjor for comment, but his contacts went unanswered.
