The United States, the United Kingdom, and Norway are warning individuals in South Sudan against obstructing the peace process that resumed today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The 3 countries that are known as the TROIKA countries say whoever tries to hinder the peace process and undermine the IGAD heads of state will face consequences.

The U.S Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan, Ambassador Donald Booth read the statement of the Troika countries yesterday in Addis Ababa.

“If the government or any other actor tries to undermine the peace process and rebuff the IGAD heads of state, they will face consequences,” warned Amb Booth.

“The people of South Sudan expect renewal; they expect their voices to be heard in forging a more sustainable peace. Business as usual is not a viable way forward.”

The EU Special Representative for the horn of Africa, Alex Rondos said the international community expects both parties to the conflict to cooperate fully with the IGAD mediators.

“As a consequence, we expect all the parties to this conflict to support and comply with everything that they have already agreed to, and patience is beginning to run little-thin with parties to this conflict who think that they can toy with their own agreements and with their neighbors, and eventually at the cost –day by day- of lives of their own citizens.”

Ambassador Booth and Mr. Rondos said the TROIKA members are still considering what sort of measures will be issued on individuals seen to hindering the peace process in South Sudan.
