Authorities in Tonj state are mobilizing the community to start cultivating crops in order to avoid recurrent hunger in the area, an official has said.

They say famers there may face severe hunger by mid this year if they do not plant crops on time.

He told Eye Radio’s Dawn show of the experience of hunger in the state.

“There is the month of July when people suffer. So this is well known to the people of Tonj state. So we said in the rally that we need to invest in agriculture in order to eliminate the famous month of July,” Manhiem Bol, deputy Tonj governor, told the Dawn Show.

Governor Bol added that they will dispatch trained officers to farmers to give them technical support, including on how to use the tractors the state received from the president early this year.
