Toby Lanzer expelled

The government has expelled the UN humanitarian Coordinator, Toby Lanzer from the country.

This morning, the Spokesperson in the office of the President denied any involvement in the expulsion.

However, this afternoon, Ateny Wek Ateny confirmed to Eye radio that the council of minister on Friday asked Mr Lanzer to leave the country.

He said the UN humanitarian Coordinator made a series of what the government described as ‘untruthful statements’, including the collapse of the country’s economy.

In a statement, UN secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon called on the government of South Sudan to reverse its decision immediately.

A UN official said Mr Lanzer was not in South Sudan on Monday, but he was planning on returning to wrap up final business.

Mr. Ban urges the government to co-operate fully with all United Nations entities in South Sudan.

Last week, the Ki-moon appointed a Ghanaian national as replacement of Mr Lanzer whose term of office has come to an end.
