Three killed in cattle-related fighting in Tonj North County

Three people were killed and another person is injured during cattle-related fighting in Tonj North County of Warrap State on Sunday.

The state information minister William Wol Mayom the incident occurred after unidentified men raided cattle at Palietpiny camp.

Wol says there was tension after some youth from Mayom County in neighboring Unity State were accused of raiding cattle on Saturday night.

Minister Wol says the accusation brought about tension, which immediately led to clashes.

“We had a report of clashes at Panabek Payam Tonj North County, after some cattle were stolen in some swampy area by unidentified thieves, on Saturday night,” he said.

“They were stolen from a subsection of just being neighbors to palietpiny.  The cattle owners accused citizens from Mayom County living with palietpiny subsection. It caused tension and clashes started immediately in the evening and three people were killed and one injured.”

On Saturday, Warrap State governor Manhiem Bol Malek asked the youth in Tonj North County to surrender firearms and work for peace in their communities.
