China has donated material supplies worth $1 million for the implementation of transitional security arrangements under the peace agreement.

They include 20 prefab houses, about 1000 military tents and 10,000 boxes of instant meals.

The also provided some 4000 blankets, 2000 mosquito nets, 70 diesel and solar generators,  500 electric fans and 500 flashlights.

The materials were handed over to the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission last evening to be used in the cantonment of forces 25 kilometers outside Juba town.

Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Ma Qiang says the donation is in response to a request by the government.

“As a true friend and sincere partner of South Sudan, China will continuously provide strong support to South Sudan in the process of peaceful reconstruction,” Mr Qiang said.

China is one of the seven international partners in the peace agreement and a member of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission.
