South Sudan has joined the rest of the world today to celebrate the World Health Day with a message of keeping food safe.

The day is celebrated annually on the 7th of April to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization in 1948.

The theme for this year is: “From farm to plate, make food safe.”

In marking the day, an advisor in the ministry of Agriculture is urging small scale farmers use organic and avoid chemicals that cause diseases to people.

Khamis Abunja says using chemicals without instructions from an expert could affect the lives of people.

“It’s very important to use local manure to grow vegetables,” Mr Abunja told Eye Radio’s Dawn Show.
