No to Sudan curriculum, Rumbek students told

No schools are allowed to continue with the Sudan curriculum, the undersecretary at the Ministry of Education, Michael Lopuke, has announced.

Some students of Rumbek National Secondary school have been requesting the national government to allow them continue with the Sudan curriculum.

Mr Lopuke says using a curriculum from another country will not allow students to learn the history and geography of South Sudan.

“Our children need to know about Gude, they need to know about Ngundeng, they need to know about John Garang, they need to know about Joseph Lagu and they need to know about Abel Alier,” Mr Lopuke stressed.

“They need not to know that the tallest mountain is Jebel Mara. They need to know that Imotong is the highest mountain in the republic.”

Prior to independence, South Sudan was using various curricula from the neighboring countries.
