The US Department of State says South Sudan conflict will be on top of the agenda today in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, in discussions between the US Secretary of State, John Kerry and eight African regional leaders.

Mr Kerry arrived in Kenya on Sunday, on his second trip to the East African country.

According to the State Department as reported by the Reuters news agency, Mr. Kerry will first meet Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss the country’s forthcoming presidential elections.

He will then meet foreign ministers from Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan, Djibouti, Tanzania, Somalia and Ethiopia to discuss ways of preventing South Sudan from going back to a full-scale civil war.

The meeting will also discuss advancement of political transition in Somalia.

Secretary Kerry is then expected to travel to Sokoto in Nigeria tomorrow.
