The Director General of South Sudan Television, Khamis Abdullatif Chawul, has denied that he has resigned from his position.

Local media reported this morning that Mr. Abdullatif had resigned yesterday, one month after taking over the position through a presidential appointment.

He told Eye Radio that he is still serving as Director General of SSTV and that he can only be removed through a presidential decree.

He also said he will not abide by a ministerial order transferring him to the headquarters of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting because he “was appointed by the President via a presidential decree as Director General of the SSTV.”

Mr. Khamis also confirmed that there was tension at the television station yesterday following the announcement of a ministerial order transferring him to the headquarters of the Ministry.

When contacted by Eye Radio, the Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth, said he was in a meeting and did not comment on the matter.
