IGAD has released a report indicating violation of the Cessation of Hostilities agreement by the government and the SPLM-In Opposition.

The violations occurred few days after signing of the Compromise Peace Agreement by the warring parties and other stakeholders in August.

The IGAD Monitoring and Verification team says the SPLM-In Opposition launched an offensive against government forces in Nhialdiu, Unity State on the 23rd of last month.

It also says on the 3rd of this month, Government helicopter gunships attacked the position of the opposition forces in the west bank of the Nile opposite Malakal.

In its latest report, IGAD monitors say about 50 violations have been committed by the warring parties in the last 19 months.

24 of them were committed by the government and 28 by the SPLM-In Opposition.

It recommended the IGAD Special Envoys to strongly condemn the two sides for these violations and urge them to commit to the peace agreement.
