SPLA denies looting ICRC Leer compound

Author : | Published: Friday, October 9, 2015

The SPLA has denied looting compound of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Leer County, Unity State, last weekend.

Early this week, the ICRC said it withdrew its entire staff from its humanitarian compound in the area, after looting and threats against their workers.

It said dozens of armed men entered the compound and stole equipment, medical supplies and money.

Spokesperson Colonel Philip Aguer says the ICRC Center is outside Leer Town and that the area was under the control of SPLM in Opposition forces.

He says the incident should be investigated.

“Instead of blanket accusation, let us address this incident one by one and we go for investigation,” Col Aguer stressed.

“The organization together with the SPLA and the civil authority can go to the ground and make investigation.”
