Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba. (Office of the President).

The Speaker of the National Parliament has called for cooperation and unity of the members to enable speedy legislation of pending bills related to peace implementation.

Jemma Nunu Kuma says the August house should effectively deliberate on important matters before the end of the extended transitional period.

She warns that the coming sessions are going to be hectic and that lawmakers should refrain from trivial issues that do not seek to address and alleviate the suffering of the citizens.

“You have visited your constituencies and saw for yourselves the suffering of your people. So we need to deliberate on bills that will address their issues and be able to provide services to them.”

The Speaker also told the members to avoid wasting time during the sittings.

She said that there are so many bills awaiting the legislature and therefore, appealed to them to attend every session as their participation in discussing the bills is of paramount importance.

“I call upon all of you to attend every sitting because we will be tabling a lot of bills,” she added.

In a recent call, the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission overseeing the peace road asked the parliament to expedite the passing of the key bills including the elections bill.
