The South Sudanese community in Uganda has issued a public advisory urging its members to exercise caution and remain law-abiding during the Republic of Uganda’s national elections on 15th January 2026.

The notice follows a meeting held on 6th January 2026 at the Embassy of South Sudan in Uganda, where H.E. the Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan to Uganda met with community leaders.

Speaking after the meeting, the Ambassador emphasized, “We urge all South Sudanese in Uganda to respect the laws of our host country and to conduct themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner during the elections.”

A follow-up community leaders’ meeting on 8th January 2026 led to the temporary suspension of all South Sudanese cultural dances and related activities from 12th January 2026 until the conclusion of the elections.

Chairperson Johnson Kengen Ngachor explained, “This decision was made to prevent large gatherings that could compromise safety during the electoral period. No cultural activities will resume until official guidance is issued.”

The advisory also encourages community members to limit unnecessary movement and to carry out personal and communal activities responsibly.

Ngachor added, We call on everyone to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and respectful of Uganda’s democratic processes. Your cooperation is vital.”

For urgent concerns during the election period, the advisory provides the following Embassy contacts: 0700770932, 0771888666, and 0200992122.

The notice was formally issued and stamped by the South Sudanese Community in Uganda on 10th January 2026.
