South Sudan has secured USD 10 million in donor support for refugee return and reintegration programs at the Global Refugee Forum Progress Review in Geneva, held from 15 to 17 December 2025.
On the sideline of the forum, the South Sudanese delegation held bilateral meetings with key humanitarian and development partners, during which the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) announced the funding commitment to support South Sudan’s efforts to address displacement-related challenges. The pledge was announced by SDC Director Ms. Patricia Danzi.
The World Bank Group, led by Mr. Xavier Devictor, also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting programs for refugee return and reintegration, while the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) pledged support toward the implementation of South Sudan’s Durable Solutions Strategy for refugees, returnees, and host communities.
The South Sudan delegation was led by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Albino Akol, alongside senior government officials from education, refugee, and early-warning institutions.
During the review, the delegation highlighted progress made under South Sudan’s six pledges to the Global Refugee Forum, while underscoring persistent humanitarian needs caused by displacement, limited access to basic services, and climate-related shocks.
Government officials said the donor commitments will support humanitarian response, early recovery, and long-term development interventions, particularly in areas hosting large numbers of refugees and returnees.
The delegation also engaged with UN agencies and refugee-led organizations to strengthen coordination and promote inclusive, durable solutions, as South Sudan continues to rely on international partnerships to address one of the region’s most protracted displacement crises.
