Around 50 participants are set to attend the Council of East Africa Football Association (CECAFA) ordinary non-elective General Assembly in Juba on January 22, 2025, according to a regional football official.
Andrew Jackson Oryada, CECAFA’s Head of Communications, confirmed that all 12 member associations, including Zanzibar, will be represented by their presidents and general secretaries.
An additional 25 guests from CAF and FIFA will also participate.
The General Assembly will focus on reviewing the 2024 season’s activities, including team performances, tournaments, and capacity-building initiatives.
The head of communication said key achievements from 2024 include workshops on medical and anti-doping protocols, match coordination in Nairobi, VAR training in Tanzania, and an executive women leadership course in Addis Ababa.
Oryada emphasized the importance of government support for football development across member states, stating that national teams represent their countries and require adequate financial backing.
“Basically, some of the aspects in the agenda will be to look at performance. We are going to have a sort of a report about what happened last year,” he said.
“It’s very important that the governments, not only in South Sudan, even in other member positions, come in and support football because if a national team is carrying the flag of the country, it should be supported financially.”
South Sudan’s sports facilities remain underdeveloped. Despite the country’s huge basketball potential, there is no in-door basketball court, while the only standard FIFA-built football stadium was recently inaugurated in Juba.
