South Sudan faces Sudan in quarter finals

Author : | Published: Monday, November 30, 2015

South Sudan will take on rival Sudan for the second time in the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Addis Ababa on Tuesday.

This to fans is like a rematch after both teams held each other off last week to a goal-less game.

The meeting between the Bright Stars and the Falcon of Jediane will see one team get eliminated from the tournament.

South Sudan quickly build its reputation in the game by beating Djibouti 2-nil and later thrashing guest team Malawi with a 2-nil win at Bahir Dar. These gains, without concession, sent the Bright Stars to the top of their Group C table with 7 points compared to their rival, Sudan, that was lurking in the 3rd position.

Sudan’s game with Djibouti enabled them with a 4-nil comeback to face South Sudan once again in the knock out stage.

CECAFA’s method of qualification to the quarter finals include; 2 top teams from each group plus the best 2 third place finishers qualify into the quarter finals.

The quarter-finalists of the 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup are; the hosts Ethiopia, reigning champions Kenya, record winners Uganda, South Sudan, Malawi, Tanzania, Rwanda  and Sudan.
