South Sudan: the 5th most corrupt country worldwide

South Sudan has been ranked the 5th most corrupt country in the world.

The country was ranked number 173 out of 175 countries in this year’s corruption perception index ranking.

South Sudan leads Sudan, Afghanistan, North Korea and Somalia who are below the table respectively.

The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be.

The Corruption Perceptions Index 2013 serves as a reminder that the abuse of power, secret dealings and bribery continue to ravage societies around the world.

Transparency International calls on the world’s government to urgently renew efforts to crack down on money laundering, clean up political finance, pursue the return of stolen assets and build more transparent public institutions.
