South Africa’s deputy president in South Sudan for 3-day visit

South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile arrived in Juba on Monday to meet South Sudan’s unity government on the situation of the revitalized agreement, Pretoria has confirmed.

Mashatile landed at Juba International Airport on August 28, where he was received by Vice President Dr James Wani Igga, according to the Presidency of the Republic of South Africa.

Deputy President Mashatile will reportedly assess the latest developments in the implementation of the 2018 revitalized peace deal and ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

He is expected to meet President Kiir and his five Vice Presidents and consult on the peace process.

The statement added that the visit is an opportunity to continue engaging Parties to the R-ARCSS as well as reaffirm South Africa’s support to the full implementation of all outstanding provisions of the R-ARCSS.
