A member of parliament representing the Kimatong constituency in Eastern Equatoria State is calling for assistance after nearly 100 people were displaced by a fire outbreak in the area.

Joseph Anjelo Lomoi, an MP in Budi County said the incident happened last week at Lotopocho village in Napak Payam.

A young boy playing with fire allegedly caused the accident and torched nearly 40 houses, displacing several families.

The lawmaker Angelo said the displaced people had lost necessities like food items and clothing, among others.

“This morning we were trying to mobilize them to go back to their places even if it’s burned so that they can stay and mobilize some resources so that they can help them because this is a very terrible situation,” said Angelo.

“Up to next year, that’s when they can recover because the whole food has burned, the house has burned into ashes with everything except the bamboo and other stick that are used for building the house.”

Ten young people between the age of 5-18, who were allegedly trapped in the houses, survived the fire incident.
